Dressed to impress? 20/06/2011
Something that really struck me when I moved to Norway from the UK was how business people dress. In the UK we are used to seeing business men/women in smart suits, bank clerks and shop assistants in uniforms, generally it is taken as the norm to dress smartly for work. Here in Norway though bank clerks and business people can be seen in fairly casual jeans and a shirt, school teachers wear their everyday casual clothes, and smart clothes only usually appear on the 17th May (Norways National Day) when the display of national dress and suits is quite spectacular. I suppose I accepted the Norwegian stance on what was considered acceptable clothes wise for business, being a foreigner it seems rude to question things too much just because "it isn't how we do things in good old Blighty". So I was quite surprised when I recently read an article on this very subject on a website called "News and Views from Norway" where they quote Benedicte Finnema, former commercial director for the Oslo Chamber of Commerce, saying “A good many Norwegians do not know how to dress in a professional setting,”. The article talks about the embarrassment this causes Finnema in international business situations and she goes on to say “You can be as talented as you like, achieve the very best, but remember that the way you dress is also a part of your presentation.”. This got me thinking about how important the way we dress is psychologically to ourselves as well as to others. I imagine there is a large number of work at home mums that don't have time to particularly think about what they are wearing that day and how it will effect their work performance. So does it make a difference to your productivity or professionalism whether you are sitting at your PC in your home office in your PJs and bunny slippers or in a classy business suit with heels? Do WAHMs make more of an effort then perhaps a normal office worker does when we go out into the public to meet with other businesses or clients? Or perhaps the opposite happens, we are so used to working in our jeans and t-shirts that the slightest improvement makes us feel dressed to impress! I'd love to hear your views, and be interested to know what all the WAHM's are wearing today! The Photo Fairy Arrives! 23/05/2011
Its been a busy and exciting year so far for Photo Fairy Designs, putting our website together, facebook page and twitter page and learning as much as possible about marketing an online business. I've been very lucky with having lots of lovely mummy friends who have been my testing board for everything I have been doing, and I have met some wonderful and innovative WAHMs online too who have been so supportive. At the moment we're working on new products based on customer requests, we're going to be adding some photo invitations to our product range very soon. We'll be offering set templates where we will simply insert your photo for you, or we can do totally unique custom designs for you where you can specify exactly what you want or give us a general theme and we will use our magic to create something special for you. If there is something you would like to see added to our website, whether it is more photo enhancement options, different fairy photo backgrounds, or something totally new then please don't hesitate to contact us. |
