Today is the day most people are taking down the last of their Christmas decorations, I always think it is a little sad to take the beautiful sparkly baubles and lights down and put them away for another year. I suppose that is part of the magic of them though and if we were to keep them up all year long they wouldn't seem so special.

I have a particularly special fairy at the top of my Christmas tree, she is a doll that my Nana bought when I was a little girl. My Nana made a beautiful dress, wings and fairy wand for the doll and gave her to the nursery I attended for their Christmas tree where the fairy was given the name 'Fairy Lizzie'. A few years ago, after the birth of my first son my mum bumped into my old nursery school manager, Mrs Henry, and of course told her that I now had a little boy. To my surprise, when she left, Mrs Henry had taken Fairy Lizzie with her and upon hearing that I now had children of my own she insisted on passing her onto me. What a thoughtful and magical gift! So now every year I take Fairy Lizzie carefully out of her small shoe box and place her on top of our tree, and I think of Mrs Henry and remember my wonderful Nana.
