I've always enjoyed reading, the love of books was given to me by my mum and dad and I can still remember a lot of the fantastic bedtime stories my mum used to read to my brother and I. They were so good in fact that you would often find the whole family in either my bedroom or my brothers listening to the bedtime story my mum was reading!

I'm really hoping I pass this love of books on to my children who are aged 2 and a half and 4, and they are already lucky enough to own a large selection of books in both English and Norwegian. I'm always on the look out for new stories though, particularly as my 2 year old often gets hooked on one particular book and insists I read it to him for weeks on end!

So here are my current top 5 childrens Bedtime stories:

Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson
I love this book, especially the fact that my 2 year old joins in with the words 'and the bear snores on!'.

While the bear sleeps in his cave one by one mouse, badger, hare and their friends take shelter in there away from the snow. What will happen if the bear wakes up?!

Tyrannosaurus Drip byJulia Donaldson
I have read this book so many times now I know it off by heart!

Meet the grisly and grim and a little bit dim Tyrannosaurus Drip who accidently hatch out an egg of duck-billed dinosaurs who are peace-loving and vegetarian!

How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers
This is a beautiful story perfect for bedtime.

The story is set around a boy, who loves stars and wishes that he has one of his very own so that they could take long walks together and play hide and seek.

What The Ladybird Heard by Juia Donaldson
This is a great book for children who like to interact a little, there is a ladybird on every page for them to find!

This rhyming story is a funny farmyard tale where the quiet unassuming ladybird saves the day by coming up with a plan to foil the thieves who are after the farmer's prize cow.

Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy
If you have a little boy who loves rockets as much as mine do this book is sure to be a hit!

Baby Bear wants to go to the moon and so searches around the house until he finds a rocket (a cardboard box), a space-helmet (a colander) and space-boots (his wellies). All set, he blasts off out of the chimney and into the night. Joined by an owl, Baby Bear soars high into the night sky until finally they reach the moon. But will his Mummy believe him when he returns home and tells her where he has been?

I would love to hear about your favourite bedtime stories!
